WOD: Streetfighter

By Seth Rutledge (sprutled@uncc.edu) (3 July 1995)

Well, people have been talking about doing it, so I thought I'd have a look at combining standard WOD rules with SF2. Here's what I came up with, comments or suggestions are welcome.

Wound Levels: Simply convert the wound levels of a SF directly to the standard WOD system. That is: OK,-1,-1,-2,-2,-5,Incapacitated.

Damage: Instead of adding strength, technique and maneuver modifier, just add strength + maneuver. This will result in the low-end damages being very similar to Mage et al.

Blocking: If a character has the blocking ability, every dot in block gives him one extra die to roll for soak.

Combat: Initiative is slightly different. First, SF's must declare their actions (or if you use them, pick their cards) before rolling initiative. The speed modifier for the manuever they picked is applied to the number of dice rolled for initiative. Standard roll is still Wits+Alertness. So for example A character using a jab punch would roll wits+alertness+2. Unless you play with a hex map already, you'll have to fudge the movement modifiers, but just keep in mind that 1 hex = 1 yard and use common sense.
Character Creation: This remains the same as in SF2, except that you might want to give them access to some of the abilities in the other WOD games. Note that the points for abilities (9/7/4) should stay the same. These guys have been training for years so they can beat up Chuck Norris -- they haven't had time to learn much else. Street fighters can pick any backgrounds except Talisman, Node, Avatar Library, Fetish, Pure Breed or Kinfolk. Yes, they can learn rites or thaumaturgy, no they can't have mage spheres.

Healing: Due to their magical nature in WOD, SF's heal faster than normal humans. I would suggest they heal about the same rate as John Gavigan and Hank Driskill's Immortals:

Bruised: One Round (Must make a stamina roll if in combat)
Hurt: One Minute
Injured: Five Minutes
Wounded: Thirty Minutes
Mauled: One Hour
Crippled: One Hour
Incap: One Hour
Like all healing you must heal the more serious levels first. Healing totally from mauled would take one hour + thirty mins. + five mins. + 1 min. + 1 round.

Magical Notes: A street fighter's chi is just like a mage's quintessence or a werewolf's gnosis. Should a conversion be needed, 1 chi = 1 quintessence. Also, they are obviously awakened beings, and therefore not subject to the delirium, and they can see coincidental magic for what it is.

Relations with other beings in the Wod:

Immortals: Most immortals have no problem with street fighters, except where their interests cross. Street fighters have no burning desire to hunt down and kill immortals, but some sf's have gone immortal hunting to prove how "bad" they are. Needless to say, this has not made the immortal community terribly happy.

Mages: For the most part, mages consider street fighters either a) immortals, b) highly specialized Akashic Brotherhood monks, or c) strange experiments from the past that react very interestingly under beta wave scanning. The mages certainly don't feel very threatened by the street fighters, although several SoE's have been killed trying to find out what makes a SF tick.

Werewolves: The werewolves don't like street fighters much. SF's look way too much like fomori for most garou (the fireballs, strange mutations and immunity to the delirium point in that direction) Indeed, depending on the individual SF's background, they may be fomori... Street fighters have a weird fascination with werewolves, maybe because the lupines are one of the few things that can worry a street fighter in close combat.

Vampires: While the street fighters know very little about vampires, the kindred love the street fighters. Where else can you find a big, fast, powerfully awakened being with next to no mental defenses? Street fighters are one of the most sought after ghoul-types in the world.

End: Well, that's what I could come up with...suggestions are definitely hoped for. One thing I didn't even touch was the origin of the street fighter. In my game, they are basically orphans who awoke in a very strange manner. As such, they have no unified background. As I said earlier, some are Pentex experiments, while others are just martial-artists that gained super-human abilities. I would also like to say that I do not recommend using the actual background of the game. (I guess you could, but it seems really, 12 year-oldish to me) At the very least, I don't think it should be something that the sleepers are aware of.
